Lieutenant-Colonel John August (Retired) WWII Veteran
AUGUST, John Andrew Retired Lt-Col., CD, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Retired Contracts Officer, Computer Devices, Canada Ltd. W.W. II Veteran John passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on February 18, 2009. Predeceased by his loving wife Orma (Johnston). Dear father of Gayle Gee (David), grandfather of Karyn Gee, Heather Gee-Vogt (Christian), and Sandra Gee-Milloy (Jeff) of Ottawa. Great-grandfather of Emma and Talia Vogt, and Sean and Madelyn Milloy. Survived by his sister Anne Boychuk of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by his sisters Mary, Vera, Ina and brother Edward. John served for 31 years in the Corps of Signals, including 5 1/2 years overseas in WW II and 1 year with the U.N. in the former Belgian Congo. On retiring from Signals, he worked for 16 years for Computing Devices Canada Limited. Friends are invited to visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. at Richmond Road on Tuesday, February 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, February 25 at 11 a.m. Cremation and interment at Pinecrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa Carleton would be appreciated. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nursing staff of Rideau 1 South and Dr. Leon Bloom, in the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre for their wonderful care and constant kindness to him, which contributed greatly to his quality of life and was much appreciated. Our thanks also to the nursing staff and doctors on the 6th floor North East at the Ottawa General Hospital for their care and compassion during these last weeks.
