Lieutenant-Colonel Ed Wade (Retired)

On Thursday, March 12, 2009 in his eighty-first year, in Nanaimo where he had moved last year from Ottawa. Husband of the late Nola Wade (Richards) --they were Nolie and Charlie to each other -- and father of Elaine Wade of Nanaimo and Barbara Wade Rose of Toronto. Grandfather to Jessica and Hannah. Friend of Elaine's partner Nigel Philcox and Barbara's husband Jonathan Rose. Brother to Phyllis Teske and brother-in-law to her husband Dick. A graduate of the University of British Columbia and an electrical engineer specializing in telecommunications, Ed served in the Armed Forces signal corps and in one of the first United Nations peacekeeping forces in the Gaza strip in 1959. He started his own consulting firm in Ottawa in the 1970s and helped several communities set up their 911 emergency systems. More than just about anything, Ed loved zoos. He took his family to visit most of the zoos of Europe and North America and for many years was a sponsor of the orangutans at the Toronto Zoo. If you wish to make a tribute to Ed, please donate or visit the animal sanctuary of your choice.
