Warrant Officer Robert Harold Morton (Retired) 224 Comm Tech
Robert Harold Morton, 1941 - 2009 beloved husband of Alvina Morton of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the age of 67 years. Robert was born on May 2, 1941 in Kelfield, Saskatchewan, a son to proud parents, William and Jean Morton. Robert grew up on the family farm where he learned the value of a hard days work. On May 20, 1964, in Marengo, Saskatchewan, he was united in marriage to Alvina Walz. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Ladean. Robert enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, (RCAF) and served his country as an Electronic Tech for nearly 35 years from 1962 to 1995. During this time, he fulfilled postings to Germany, B.C., Ontario and endured a tour to the Golan Heights. While in Germany he enjoyed curling in bonspiels with friends, and when stationed in B.C., he braved the waters on his own boat, fishing for B.C. Salmon. In his retirement, Robert brushed up his farming knowledge by returning to his roots by farming with his brothers and driving the grain truck. While serving in the forces, his eyes had seen many battles...these battles provided the foundation that would strengthen him for a ten year battle with cancer which he eventually succumbed to. Robert’s memory will be cherished in the hearts of his wife, Alvina Morton; daughter, Ladean (Bertrand) Guay and their children, Valerie and Jordan; brothers, Greg (Debbie) Morton, Donald (Dawn) Morton and Harry (Patricia) Morton; a special family friend, Rosa "Mudi Rosie" Thome as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Jean Morton; a brother, Gerald Morton and by his mother and father-in-law, Frances and Martin Walz. A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13th Street S.W., on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. with George Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Field of Honour at Hillside Cemetery.
