Sergeant Henry Edward (Hank) Koenig (Retired) 211 Rad Op

Sgt (ret) HE KoenigSgt (ret) HE KoenigKOENIG, Henry Edward September 30, 1933 July 14, 2009 Paratrooper, prankster, fisherman, marksman, beloved family man, Hank Koenig was born in Montreal Sept. 30, 1933 and died peacefully in Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, July 14, 2009. Known as Henry to his parents, Ginger to his wife, Grumps to his grandsons, Red to his army buddies and Hank to everyone else, he served 27 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, including peacekeeping tours in Cyprus and Egypt. But he always said the best years were those in the Canadian Airborne Regiment (1969-73) and the Canadian Airborne Centre (1973-78). Retiring from the military in 1979, he went on to a career in the Correctional Service of Canada, and later retired again, to chase salmon in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Predeceased by his father, Hugo Carl Koenig, and mother, Martha Rindt Koenig, Hank will be deeply missed by his wife Jean, daughter Kim Pietrzak (John), grandsons Curtis and Dustin Plested, and legions of friends. A memorial service will be held at at the Sands Funeral Chapel, 317 Goldstream Ave., Colwood on Monday July 20, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Arbor Reception Centre.
