God took him home. It was His will. Within our hearts he liveth still. It is with great sadness that the family of John Penney announces his passing at 74 years. Born in Halifax, NS John leaves to mourn his loving wife Virginia of 54 years. Also survived by his children Gordon Penney, Wendy (Brian) Serbin, Kenneth (Wanda) Penney, Don (Jacqueline) Penney, nine grandchildren William, Kerry, Jared, Kane, Greg, Jeff, Crystal, Stacey, Matthew, four great-grandchildren Brooke, Brianne, John, Lukas, brothers Hugh and George Penney. John will also be missed by many extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents George William and Janie-Rose Penney, sisters Viola Ernest, Mildred Nelson, Veda Leppard and one brother Allison Penney. John served in the Canadian Military for 25 years. He was with the Royal CDN Corp of Signals serving throughout Canada and the Congo. Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Leo Cordeau on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Edmund's Catholic Parish 13120 - 116 Street Edmonton, AB. Viewing will take place one hour prior. Interment to follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations in John's memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
