C & E Branch Birthday

  1. The Communications and Electronics (C & E) Branch celebrates annually the formation of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals on 24 October as the birth of military communications in Canada.
  2. Requests have been received from the field to celebrate the C & E Branch with the senior officers and NCM S at each unit.
  3. The Branch Advisory Group has agreed that an appropriate date would be 1 Oct for the following reasons:
    a.  1 Oct 1968 marks the integration of the Canadian Forces and formation of CF Branches; and
    b.  1 Oct 1968 marks the appointment of LGen F.A. Clark as the first Colonel-Commandant of the C & E Branch.
  4. 1 October 1968 is therefore a significant date in the C & E Branch history. Each year, all C & E Branch members are encouraged to mark the month of October as quote C & E month unquote commencing with local C&E Branch birthday celebrations on 1 October, the Annual C&E Professional Development week usually the third week of October and ending with the celebration of the formation of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and the birth of military communications in Canada on 24 October.
  5. I would also like to refer all members of the Branch to the history of the Canadian Military Communications and Electronics as written by the late Captain John A. Mackenzie and updated on 25 September 1995 and published at the following URLs on Intranet:
